Girls Hockey Players, Assistant Coach Earn State Awards

MOUND WESTONKA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS HOCKEY PLAYERS SYDNEY LEONARD, EMILY WENDORF AND MONTANA COURNEYA HAVE EARNED STATEWIDE AWARDS. ASSISTANT COACH JIM KURTZ WAS ALSO NAMED CLASS A ASSISTANT COACH OF THE YEAR.

Mound Westonka High School girls hockey players juniors Sydney Leonard and Emily Wendorf and senior Montana Courneya have earned statewide awards.  Leonard was selected to the Class A All-State team, and Wendorf to the Class A Honorable Mention All-State team at the Ms. Hockey Awards banquet held February 27 in Oakdale. In addition, Courneya was named the winner of the Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association Executive Council Scholarship.

Jim Kurtz , assistant coach of the Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian girls hockey team, was named Class A Assistant Coach of the Year at the Ms. Hockey banquet. Kurtz has spent over 10 years behind the White Hawks bench during two different stints with the team. He has also coached football, baseball, and track at MWHS. Additionally, Kurtz has coached in the fall Premier Prep league the past number of years. He's respected statewide for his contributions to the White Hawks programs.
